Now let’s give Zippy some more details. This image would be considered a colored fullbody. As a result, the artist would receive two Runes.

How to Use Runes

How to Earn Runes

You earn Runes by drawing art of anything related to KitterKeep! See below on how to count what they’re worth!

  • Colored Headshot, Bust, or Partial Shot = 1 Rune

  • Colored Fullbody = 2 Runes

Image must show most of your Kitter’s body. It’s okay if a tail or a toe or something similarly small gets cut off. Fullbodies need to be decently detailed and shown at a decent size. Anything extremely small and/or not detailed will be considered a partial shot.

  • Add a story = 1 Rune per 500 words

Show off your ability to paint with words by writing a story in the description to go with an image. Roleplays do not count as stories. Sorry!

  • Add a Background = 5 Runes

You must put effort into the backgrounds. They must have depth. A Kitter must be in the picture to earn Runes. A grass and sky horizon line does not count and will not earn you any Runes. There needs to be a background and a foreground along with significant detail. Having only a sky with some airbrushed clouds will not count. Mods may grant you more if it's a really elaborate and impressive one.

  • Colored Fullbody Gift = +2 Runes

Drawing an NPC or someone else’s Kitter will earn you the usual two Runes plus two additional Runes, granting you a total of four Runes. The same rules from Colored Fullbody apply here.

  • Animation = 3 Runes

Animations count as three Runes per animation. The staff may award you more Runes if we deem it elaborate or impressive enough. Simple animated icons or animations where only one part of the Kitter moves do not count.

  • Colored Fullbody Kitter-related Creature = 1 Rune

Drawing any Kitter-related creature, such as wildlife, a pet, or even a monster, will earn you one Rune as long it follows the rules stated in the Colored Fullbody section.

Staff members may comment on deviations to award extra Runes for extra effort. We want to reward people who put a considerable amount of work into their art and/or have demonstrated remarkable creativity. As you can see, it’s quite easy to collect Runes, so you don’t need to be discouraged by the prices on upgrades.

How to Add Runes to Your descriptions

Need some example images of adding Rune emoticons to descriptions

You’ll find that adding up your Runes is quite easy. Please count Runes for every deviation you submit to the KitterKeep group. This makes it easier for mods to keep track of Runes in case an issue arises.

In the bottom of your description, add “earned/total”:

  • The number on the left is the how many Runes you earned from this deviation.

  • The number on the right is your new overall total of Runes. If you forget your Rune total, you can always look at your most recent deviation to see where you left off.

Example: 2/25 Runes

Feel free to use our Rune emoticon by clicking the “Add Media”  button at the bottom of your description. You can find it by searching for “kkrune”.

Detailed Example: Let’s say that you’ve just finished your first KitterKeep art. It was a Colored Fullbody with a background, resulting in seven Runes. You would put “7/7 Runes” in the description. Now let’s say you draw a second picture, this time only drawing a Colored Fullbody of your Kitter. You earned two Runes, so you would put “2/9 Runes” in the description.

As you can see, it’s quite simple.

Additional Notes On Runes

  • Using the same line base for multiple Kitter gifts does not count towards Runes. We want to see effort and creativity.

  • Commissioned or artwork that is paid for does not count towards Runes.

  • Icons/Pixels can count as one Rune if they are at least 50x50 pixels and are recognizable as a fullbody.

  • Stories must accompany a deviation image in order to count towards Runes. However, the image does not need to be colored for the story to earn Runes.

  • Sketches do not count towards Runes. However, the staff may reward you if enough effort is put into them.

  • Your Rune total will affect ALL of your Kitters that you create. This means that you can use these Runes to add upgrades to any new Kitters you make in the future. However, you will still need to follow age requirements.

  • Runes may not be given or traded. They belong to you only.

  • When a collab is done, only the person who posts the picture is awarded Runes. This is for simplicity's sake.

  • Your Meep and Adult applications count as Colored Fullbodies for earning Runes.

Now that you know what you need to know about Runes, you can start drawing your Kitters and earning Runes! Have fun!

Now some of you are probably wondering how to count your Runes. We're going to use Zippy here as an example. Here, we have a colored headshot, so this would be worth one Rune.

Runes are your way of tallying up the art you draw in the group. Earning enough Runes allows you to give your Kitters upgrades! Rather than currency, think of them as milestones. They never deplete or get spent! The amount of Runes you have is connected per artist rather than per Kitter, so you can use them for every Kitter you own. They are counted by you and rely on an honor system to keep track of how many you have earned.

Now Zippy has some friends! Let's say that “Yellow” belongs to another artist. “Green” is a Terra Pup. Just like before, Zippy is worth two Runes. Yellow is a Colored Headshot because most of his body is obscured, so he's worth one Rune. Finally, Kitter-related creatures, such as Terra Pups, are worth one Rune.

Basically, Zippy is worth two, Yellow is worth one, and Green is worth one Rune. Therefore, the artist would receive a total of four Runes. If Yellow were a fullbody owned by another artist he would be worth four total runes on his own.

This is worth the same amount as the previous image. See how the background has very little detail? There's only some flat green and blue for the grass and sky along with a poorly detailed sun. Therefore, this background is not eligible for Runes. Just like the previous image, the artist only earns Runes for the Colored Fullbody, Headshot and Terra Pup.

Now this is a detailed background! You can clearly make out plenty of details put into the background. Since backgrounds are worth five Runes, you would add these four Runes to the total from the Colored Fullbody, Headshot and Terra Pup. This results in the artist earning nine Runes from this one picture!
