The Original Six

Fire
Beauty resides within the flame,
Its warmth brings life.
This power its wielder must tame,
Lest their passion turn to strife.

An ancient law states that Kitters who possess an affinity for the void are not permitted to breed with any Kitter other than one whose affinity is light or void, lest their child be born with one of the forbidden elements. Curiously enough, no one actually remembers why this law was passed. Superstition ensures that everyone follows it, though.
Breaking this law is a crime punishable by banishment to the Clawtooth Islands; a pair of islands that are under constant guard.
